We have been married one year as of the 21st! Marriage sure has been an adjustment, but it has been a great one. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Here is what we have learned:
Mitch has gotten used to me waking up to scream at the bad guys who, I am convinced, were trying to get me. He has also gotten used to being punched in the face when I wake up certain of these intrusions, murderers or bad guys.
Mitch has also gotten used to my sleeping schedule. In bed by ten, and up at the crack of dawn. Eleven o'clock is officially really late for him. He can rightfully blame me for this.
Mitch has been good to put up with my slight OCD-ness. We fold our clothes, put them in our laundry basket and take the baskets upstairs where we then unfold our clothes to be hung in the closet. You can judge me. It's weird. Also, please do not put the plates facing different directions in the dishwasher. Do not put the small forks where the big forks go. Please put the knives back in the drawer facing the same direction. Please do not fold shirts inside out, wear mismatched socks, or put the napkin on the wrong side of the plate. And absolutely do not leave your hunting magazines by the toilet. (: He does all this without complaining. What a guy.
I have adjusted to deer horns as decorations, splashed on bathroom mirrors, and Mitch sleeping on top of the covers - making it impossible to pull the sheets my direction. I have also expanded my vocabulary this year: Packin', drop tine, narleys (NOT used in the same context as a Hawaiian surfer beach bum), tines up, tines down, non-typical, glassin', and so on.
My kitchen education has also expanded:
Do not cook homemade pizza without sauce.
When a cookie recipe says to bake for 30 minutes - you've read it wrong.
Find the expiration on your Ragu sauce before making lasagna.
You won't get kissed for a day if you eat tuna fish.
Mitch would rather starve than eat peanut butter sandwiches (unless Tuna was the only other option).
Not everyone likes an apple a day.
It's hard to tell when broccoli is rotten because it tastes so awful in the first place. (Fortunately Mitch knew better. Unfortunately, I was told after I ate my vegetables for the night).
Laundry - my mom was a saint for doing our laundry. Oh, how I wish someone still did my laundry. In the past year I have managed to:
Bleach my favorite dress, three shirts and a swimsuit.
Forgotten the wet clothes in the washer about 5 different times. Trust me - the smell takes two or three washes before it comes out.
Create a monster out of our dryer. It ate holes in two of my shirts and...a few of Mitch's. (It was more dramatic when it happened to mine...Mitch didn't whine about it for days like I did).
Television and Movies...
Transformers never gets old to boys.
The discovery channel, to my surprise, is not just something that used to be watched in Science class...
Inviting Mitch to watch Pretty Little Liars is a terrible idea. Inviting Jeff to watch it is the absolute worst idea. If my dad were to watch it...it would be whatever comes after absolute worst idea.
It doesn't matter if they don't know any of the players on the team - they're watching the game.
One day I will get Mitch to like watching 60 minutes. It's a must.
I love life. I love family. I love my Mitch. I love being married. I can't imagine a better life. We have been so blessed this past year - in many ways. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father for the blessings that we enjoy. I am grateful for the direction the restored gospel of Jesus Christ gives me. It teaches me how to live my life, how to improve my marriage, how to love and work together as families. The gospel continually reminds me how I can be better. When I set and reach my spiritual, physical and mental goals, I feel closer to my Heavenly Father. I feel of his love, and I am so grateful to know that one day, we can live with him, our families, friends and those we love. I am grateful for the time I have here on earth to be with family, to be married to the love of my life, and to try to be better and to improve my life. I know there are always more talents to learn, knowledge to obtain, things to do better, people to be kinder to - and I am grateful for that opportunity.
